Fire officials have ruled a New Bern fire that claimed the life of a man an accident. Fire Marhsal Danny Hill says the fire at 705 Broad Street was the result of the misuse of cooking equipment. The city says that the investigation continues into the cause of death and the identification of the victim. New Bern Fire-Rescue tells WITN one person was found dead after a fire on Monday morning. A city spokesperson says the fire was at a residential building that housed rooms for people to rent. Firefighters say five people were home at the time. The person’s name has not been released and we still do not know what caused the fire.
