The Carolina Brotherhood organization stopped by Lumberton and Pembroke fire departments Thursday during its 645-mile bicycle ride to honor fallen fire, EMS and law enforcement personnel in the Carolinas.
“Our stop at Lumberton Fire Department was in honor of Officer Jason Quick. He was killed in a motor vehicle accident when he was struck by a vehicle while working the scene of a previous accident,” said Bill Suthard, Operations manager of Fire Communications at Charlotte Fire Department, and Brotherhood member.
Quick died on Dec. 20, 2018, while investigating a crash on Interstate 95.
The cyclists, who also serve in the fire and law enforcement professions, met with Quick’s wife, Leah, to pay respects Thursday morning. A truck also accompanied the group of cyclists with a trailer bearing a list of fallen fire and law enforcement members from across North and South Carolina.
