Next year, Forsyth Technical Community College will begin offering a fire academy for students.
This new offering from the school will provide students with certifications to land a job as soon as they complete the academy.
Over the course of 27 weeks, participants will be able to learn the basics of firefighting and rescue. Once they have completed the academy, they will be rewarded with a certificate qualifying them to be hired by any fire department in North Carolina.
“That shortage of firefighters across the state and of course the nation is going to be continuous, and Forsyth Tech wants to be able to do our part to fill those shortages,” said Konrad Walsh, dean of public safety at the school.
