It's been a hard week for the Strickland family.
Last Thursday, their Knightdale home was burned. Tuesday, the family watched as what was left was torn down.
But, the family's community is working to make sure something new can rise from the ashes on Fayetteville Street.
Bev Strickland took one last look at her home on Tuesday afternoon, stepping through what's left of where she's lived for nearly two decades.
"If I'd been in here five more minutes, me and the youngins wouldn't have got out of here," she said.
Strickland was taking a nap on this bed Thursday when the fire started. She only survived because of her two dogs.
"They come in, and they were licking me, and they were barking, and when I woke up?, all I could see was blackness," said Strickland.
Once outside to safety, those pets presented a problem — their home was gone.
