The Asheville Fire Department honored one of its own Thursday. A fallen firefighter ceremony was held in honor of Grady “Dock” Wilson, who died in the line of duty on June 28, 1948. The ceremony was held at Fire Station 9 for Wilson's family and friends. It was also open to the public. "We will always honor his sacrifice and have named this firehouse after him because he certainly has saved so many Asheville firefighters' lives because of his sacrifice," Asheville Fire Chief Scott Burnette said. Wilson died from a heart attack while on duty. His death helped make the department really focus on firefighters’ health.
