A Wayne County business which supplied many local people with oak firewood this time of year, went up in flames on Thursday evening, destroying a couple's work of eight years.
The Highway 70 location known as "Karen and Mickey's Oakwood" was quickly engulfed in flames, according to owner, Mickey Phillips.
Phillips and his wife had just left to celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary when they received a phone call about the fire. The owner said that they had been working long hours into the nights preparing hand-painted Christmas yard decorations, which they have become somewhat famous for.
"My wife does it every year," Mickey said. "The barn was full of items she has painted, ready for Christmas."
Their large pole-barn surrounded by oak logs and split firewood was completely destroyed.
They had no insurance.
