A school bus driver and a Charlotte Area Transit System bus rider were hurt in a crash when the driver of the CATS bus had a medical emergency, firefighters said.
According to the Charlotte Fire Department, a CATS bus crashed head-on into a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus in southeast Charlotte at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The crash happened on Randolph Road near Aylesford Road. Paramedics confirmed they took three people to the hospital, but said none of those patients were from the school bus. In a 9:45 a.m. update, firefighters confirmed the CATS driver, a CATS bus rider and the CMS driver were taken to the hospital. Investigators said the CATS driver had a medical emergency while driving and swerved, crossing lanes and hitting the CMS bus. CMS said there were seven students on board bus #1422, which was headed to Park Road Montessori.
