VIDEO: The Lexington City Council is sending a dog to firefighters. On Monday, the city approved the Lexington Fire Department's Comfort K9 Program Policy. Now, the department will get Luna, a comfort K9. Luna is a red labrador retriever. She is expected to arrive in late September to provide companionship and emotional relief for firefighters who face immense stress and trauma in their line of work. The comfort K9 policy explains the purpose, expectations, designated handlers, training, transportation, daily care, and treatment of Luna. The city will soon be accepting donations that will be utilized for Luna's well-being, including veterinary visits, toys, and other quality-of-life expenses.
