Per the Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue, firefighters were called to the intersection of Cougar Road and N.C. 87/George II Hwy SE but located the fires nearly a mile away in the woods.
“While making access, crews found a fast moving woods fire in one location and roughly 150 yards further a separate fire involving a vehicle and spreading rapidly into the woods,” the fire rescue states. “Additional resources were requested quickly by the incident commander, bringing brush trucks and forestry to the scene as well.
“All hands worked for roughly 2 hours to bring the fire under control. Once controlled, the remaining scene was turned over to forestry to assure the fire wouldn’t reignite and spread further.”
