A woman was helped to safety after she appeared to have driven into a flooded roadway in north Charlotte late Monday night.
The woman’s car became stranded on Boxmeer Drive, just off Statesville Road near I-85, shortly before midnight.
Firefighters and police officers helped her out of her vehicle and back to drier ground. She appeared uninjured, and officials blocked off the roadway until the water recedes.
Heavy rain and wind caused other issues around Charlotte as well, with the National Weather Service reporting nearly three inches of rain on Monday alone. Rain will linger into the start of Tuesday before clearing later in the day. Wind gusts could reach 25-35 mph. Multiple crashes were reported on wet roads, including one involving a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer on I-485 near Exit 32.
