VIDEO: One person has died and another was badly hurt after a tree fell on a northwest Charlotte home on Friday morning. The tree came crashing down shortly after 5 a.m. on Brookway Drive, right off Hoskins Road near Rozzelles Ferry Road. Medic confirmed the fatality and said the other person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Charlotte firefighters said children were in the home but were not hurt. The tree fell as impacts from Tropical Storm Helene ramp up in the Charlotte area. As of the 5 o’clock hour, wind gusts were reaching 40 mph in some areas, with even stronger winds yet to come.
