Emergency crews and community members are coming together to send help and resources to isolated towns in Western North Carolina after Tropical Storm Helene left a path of devastation in its wake. President Biden granted Governor Roy Cooper’s request for a Federal Major Disaster Declaration for Tropical Storm Helene over the weekend. This will bring immediate federal help to 25 North Carolina counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. First responders, emergency medical personnel, and utility linemen from Eastern Carolina areas like Rocky Mount, New Bern, Greenville, Morehead City, Newport, and Washington are already helping with recovery efforts in the West. Crew members left before the storm hit and Eastern North Carolina is not slowing its support after the recent weather-related disaster.
