March saw the start of a partnership between the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department and Priority Medical Transport which has helped spread the number of medical calls out between the two groups.
Records clerk Dale Holbein said Priority Medical Transport answered over 30 medical calls in March, which left the LVFD with 12. In March 2018 the LVFD responded to 56 medical calls. Last month there were eight EMS assists, two vehicle accidents, one vehicle and pedestrian and one invalid call. Holbein said 10 patients were taken to Lexington Regional Health Center.
The co-op between the LVFD and Priority has helped ease the strain on the volunteers. Last year by this point the LVFD had responded to 159 calls, to date they have responded to 94.
Fire calls in March numbered five, roughly the same as last year with seven calls.
