PHOTO: Twenty-three firefighters from the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department had a cold night extinguishing a fire at the Dollar General store in Aurora. The store was still open when firefighters were called at 8:26 p.m. Thursday. Everyone was outside when they arrived. All of the contents of the building were destroyed, said Glenn Obermeier of the Aurora Fire Department. The structure itself didn’t receive a terrible amount of damage other than what the firefighters had to do “to open up the side of the metal building in order to get into it,” Obermeier said. The building is “still in pretty good shape” but “everything inside is done.” No one was injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Members of the Hampton Fire Department were called in later “when we were running out of air and air packs,” Obermeier said.
