A city worker alerted by a mobile application helped save a person in cardiac arrest by the Lincoln Airport on Thursday, a Lincoln Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said. Dave Thurber, a retired police officer working for Public Works and Utilities, received a notification from the Pulsepoint mobile application just before noon indicating someone needed CPR nearby, Firefighter-Paramedic Nancy Crist said. Over 17,000 people have subscribed to Lincoln Fire and Rescue's feed on the mobile app, which was adopted locally in 2015. It sends an alert to app subscribers who say they are CPR-trained and within a quarter mile of the medical emergency. Since 2015, several users have responded to provide CPR after receiving an alert, Crist said. But Thurber was the first app user to begin CPR on someone in cardiac distress, Crist said.
