Wood River was affected by July 8th's storms, but the impact was not as negative because the city was prepared with a warning unlike March. With three floods under his belt, Fire Department Chief Todd King has the experience to counter a storm as much as he can. "We knew what was going upstream actually Tuesday morning, I spoke to the mayor, city council, we decided to start some of those efforts cause we knew some of the bad spots that needed to get taken care of regardless. We actually started preparing sandbags Tuesday afternoon, I think total, all said–and–done we did 22 or 25 thousand sandbags throughout the area in Wood River," King said. He enjoys the responsibility, even on the busy days. "Being on the fire department is one of the best jobs you'll get paid for. Just being able to create, help organize, get the community, keep them moving, keep the damage from happening and do what we can," King said.
