PHOTOS: An apartment complex west of Kearney was completely evacuated Thursday as a fire on the lower level began to spread. The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department received the call around noon for a reported structure fire at the Village apartment complex on La Crosse Drive. The Captain says crews were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes. "When we got here, we found eight unit complex, smoke coming out of one of the first floor units. We immediately made entry into that unit. The interior crew went looking for the fire and we had additional crews that began searching the remaining apartment units to make sure that we had no fire extension and no other occupants in the building," said Jeremy Feusner, Captain of the Kearney Fire Department. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries from the occupants or firefighters themselves.
