Lincoln Fire and Rescue personnel responded to an apartment fire at 5300 R St. just before 9 a.m. Wednesday. When crews arrived, smoke and flames could be seen coming from a third-story apartment. Firefighters put out the fire shortly after arriving and it was contained to the room where it started. Two occupants were relocated by Red Cross. One cat was found dead in the apartment. The cause of the fire is still unconfirmed and under investigation. The extent of the damage has yet to be determined.
