The Sidney Fire Department, Sidney Police Department, and Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Here Wee Grow day care center in Sidney on Thursday morning on report of a possible fire in the facility. The call came in to the Cheyenne County Emergency Communications Center (CCEC) around 7:30 a.m.
Rhonda Schuessler, Director of Here Wee Grow, told KSID that she and other staff members could smell what seemed like smoke in one of the classrooms, and feared a fire had ignited with their furnace. Quickly, they shut off the heating system and, along with assistance from the staff at nearby Western Nebraska Community College, moved the children over to the WNCC campus. Parents were then called to inform them of the situation.
