Firefighters battled three house fires across the metro Friday evening. Two of the fires were in Omaha near 48th and Mapes along with 38th and Ames.
At 48th and Maple, a family runs outside in the snow to escape a cooking fire.
“[The mother] was able to get out with her two young kids to wait outside for crews” said Omaha Fire Battalion Chief Mike Pritchard. “Our initial crews got here they had heavy smoke in the kitchen area. We got the fire out pretty quickly.”
Though Omaha fire crews put the flames out quickly, weather affected them getting to the fire on time.
“Our biggest problem here was a delay just in the traffic, obviously in the snow conditions on the roads and then kind of in a hilly situation,” Pritchard said. “Crews arriving had a difficult time going up the hills and obviously coming down and trying to come to a stop in front of the residence.”
