Hot and dry conditions are bringing fire restrictions to Nebraska's forests and grasslands. Pine Ridge Ranger District and the Oglala National Grassland are now in a stage one fire restriction. The fire restriction will remain in place until December 31, 2021 or until it is rescinded. Activities prohibited under the fire restriction include fires outside a metal or concrete fire pit, smoking outside and operating a chainsaw without fire prevention tools. Explosives and the use of torches is also prohibited during the restriction. The use of firearms is allowed within the restriction areas.
