A Red Bank man who admitted stabbing a volunteer firefighter to death during a street fight over a woman in 2018 was sentenced Friday to 13 years in state prison.
Demar S. Reevey, 24, must serve at least 11 years before being eligible for parole. He pleaded guilty in May to aggravated manslaughter in the killing of Andrew Hill, 26, of Red Bank. Reevey’s public defender previously said the two men were friends and he didn’t mean to hurt Hill.
Authorities said they had been arguing over Reevey’s girlfriend on May 27 when the confrontation turned into a street fight in the area of Tilton Avenue and Bank Street in Red Bank. Hill was found stabbed at the scene at 12:43 a.m. and later died at the hospital. Reevey was arrested a short time later.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said the plea deal on the manslaughter charge that called for the 13-year sentence was reached after consulting with Hill’s family.
