Two boats caught fire Saturday afternoon at the Barnegat Beach Marina in Waretown. The fires were extinguished without incident, and no injuries were reported. The Waretown Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Lagoon View and Marine Road for a boat fire in the lagoon. Authorities found two boats engulfed. As Engine 3601 arrived, one boat had burnt through its ropes that were attached to the dock. Wind drifted the boat to the middle of the lagoon. First-arriving crews secured the vessel, as is practice with boat fires. New Jersey State Police's Marine Unit helped secure the boat. Officials secured the boats on the other side of the lagoon to extinguish them and protect the marina's other boats. The Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office and NJSP Marine Unit are investigating the fire, as is practice for any boat fire.
