Firefighters and emergency personnel from the city and surrounding areas responded to a three-alarm fire Monday at an industrial site.
The call came in at 12:53 p.m. reporting a fire at 1 Home News Row, city spokesperson Jennifer Bradshaw said in an email.
The site is home to GDB International, Inc.
Upon arrival it was discovered that the fire started in pallets that contained plastic materials bound for recycling purposes, Bradshaw said.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters contained the fire in a way that prevented major damage to the building. The exterior sustained minor damage only.
Because of the presence of plastics on the pallets, Middlesex County Hazmat took air samples at the site, as well as on Van Dyke Avenue and near the high school on Route 27 but did not receive any readings of harmful chemicals in the air from the fire, Bradshaw said.
The fire was brought under control, but fire personnel remained on the scene as of about 5 p.m.
