Township police internal affairs is reviewing the department’s handling of a Sunday evening crash involving a fire department vehicle in which a South River couple was killed.
Police Chief Frank LoSacco issued a statement saying he has directed the Office of Professional Standards, or internal affairs, to review the handling of the crash to identify any policy or procedure changes that may need to be addressed concerning issues that were raised.
"I have given the Office of Professional Standards one week to produce this report and I will ensure that any changes necessary are made so that the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office continues to receive the full cooperation of our agency," LoSacco said. Around 7:30 p.m., an East Brunswick Fire Department District 1 fire chief's vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by a South River couple on Old Bridge Turnpike near Gunia Street.
