New Kitchen on Bowden Road caught fire Thursday afternoon, causing at least three businesses to be evacuated. Fire departments from Cedar Grove, Verona and North Caldwell converged on the Chinese eatery at about 2 p.m. Minimal damage could be seen outside the building but firefighters inside pulled down tiles from the ceiling. Firefighters also climbed a ladder onto the roof to check its integrity. Black smoke could be seen coming from the building's roof at the height of the fire. Lucy Cleaners and Bellatair Salon were also evacuated. A Cedar Grove police or fire official could not immediately be reached. Gaby Lamanna, who works at Bellatair, said two officers came in to tell the eight staffers and five clients to leave the building. "They got the fire out quick," Lamanna said.
