With two years still left in her probationary term after admitting in 2016 she set the Ascot Park Apartment complex ablaze in 2014, a Newton woman has been jailed after being accused of assaulting the father of her child, claiming he cheated on her with their child's case worker. Elizabeth Sommers, 38, was charged Saturday, Aug. 10, with simple assault, a disorderly person's offense. She was jailed after her arrest, where she remained Thursday evening pending a court hearing. Around 5:15 p.m. Aug. 10, Newton patrols on duty were dispatched to a residence for a report of a domestic dispute. Patrols say Sommers, who was the complainant, said she was in a physical dispute with a man who is the father of her child, but whose name was redacted in an affidavit of probable cause. Sommers, police said, appeared "agitated and excited."
