A homeowner lost one of his dogs in an early-morning fire on West Demarest Avenue on Sunday. Trevor Sealy said he likes to get up early in the morning, especially to go for walks. But this morning was different. He was alerted to smoke by his two barking dogs. “It was little at first, but in no time, it spread to the whole house,” Sealy said. He was able to get his dog Lex out of the burning house. But Loki became scared and ran upstairs. “He [Loki] liked to sleep under the bed,” Sealy said. “That’s where he was.” The fire is still being investigated, but he said it likely started in the kitchen, because that’s where most of the damage occurred. Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at the single-family home about 6 a.m., and it was brought under control is about a half-hour, said Englewood Fire Capt. Jeff Kaplan. The fire began on the first floor and extended to the two floors above.
