An 83-year-old woman died from her injuries after she was pulled from a house fire in Bloomfield Friday, officials said.
Firefighters rushed to the residence on Watsessing Avenue, near Berkeley Avenue, around 5:40 p.m. and called in a two-alarm blaze at the residence, bringing fire crews from Montclair and Belleville to the scene, said township Fire Chief Louis Venezia.
Responders quickly quelled most of the fire and found the woman unresponsive, according to the chief. Rescuers tried to revive her with CPR, but she succumbed to her injuries at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville.
Venezia said the blaze did not appear suspicious. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office was at the scene Friday night investigating what sparked the fire.
