A fire that destroyed an abandoned house at North Church Road and Park Drive early Saturday morning is considered suspicious, Sussex County Fire Marshal Virgil Rome said.
According to Rome, a Hardyston officer was patrolling the area just after midnight and discovered the house on fire. Upon firefighters' arrival, "the house was fully involved and was completely destroyed," Rome said.
The house and roughly three acres it sits on are listed in assessment records as being owned by Four Winds Plaza Park in Wharton. According to Rome, the home was older and had been vacant for some time.
No injuries were reported.
Rome said the cause of the fire and where it began are undetermined at this time and remain under investigation.
