Firefighters rescued a child who was trapped inside the ball pit of claw game machine Wednesday at a South Jersey shopping center. Emergency crews were called after the 1-year-old child managed to get inside the machine through the prize door at the Gloucester Premium Outlets in the Blackwood-section of Gloucester Township around 4:30 p.m., according to authorities. “The safety mechanism which should prevent a person from reaching the stuffed animal prizes, apparently malfunctioned,” Deputy Police Chief David Harkins said in an email. “The child’s hand got caught up in the mechanism while trying to reach into the game machine’s prize dispensing door.” Photos showed firefighters working on the “Big Choice” game while it appeared the child was completely inside the machine’s ball pit. It remained unclear how the child got inside the ball pit.
