A Broadway business survived potential disaster Monday as firefighters prevented the spread of flames from a burning building next door.
But Triangle Liquors still paid a price.
Much of the water poured onto the blaze at the long-vacant Talk of the Town Lounge flooded into the liquor store’s basement, rising five feet or more from the floor, said owner Nashat “Tony” Girgis.
“It’s a mess,” he sighed Tuesday, gesturing toward the still-swampy basement where cartons of liquor, beer and wine were listing in about two feet of water near noon. But Girgis noted the store’s plight could have been even worse if flames had reached its highly flammable contents.
