Multiple animals were killed and several vehicles damaged when a barn in Salem County caught fire Monday night.
The fire broke out around 10 p.m. on the 100 block of Newkirk Station Road in Upper Pittsgrove, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said Tuesday.
The fire, which spread to a flat-bed truck and at least one other vehicle parked nearby, is not believed to be suspicious, but remains under investigation, police said. No firefighters were injured battling the blaze. Marchan didn’t immediately have information about the number or type of animals in the barn, one of two on a farm behind a multi-story home.
State Police patrol Upper Pittsgrove, a rural town of about 3,300 residents in eastern Salem County that doesn’t have its own police department.
