Two firefighters were injured Tuesday when a blaze tore through a large home in Montclair, authorities said.
People living in the home on Llewellyn Road were awakened about 12:40 a.m. by the smell of smoke and were able to get outside before firefighters arrived, according to Deputy Chief Robert Duncan of the Montclair Fire Department.
Firefighters “arrived to find heavy fire venting out of the third-floor side windows,” Duncan said in an email. Two firefighters were treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. None of the residents were hurt, Duncan said.
When the blaze was brought under control after about an hour, firefighters discovered heavy fire damage to the third floor and smoke and water damage to the basement, first and second floors, Duncan said.
The cause of the fire was “an electrical wiring malfunction,” Duncan said.
