Saddle Brook firefighters had to cut holes in the floor at a Hutter Street home after clutter prevented them from accessing a fire that broke out in the basement. A woman and her cat were removed from the one-story home by police Tuesday morning when a blaze broke out around 6:57 a.m., said Fire Chief Chris Sloma. No one was injured during the fire. Heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the front door when firefighters arrived, Sloma said. Siding on the one-story house was removed and firefighters vented the roof of the home. Sloma said the fire is under investigation but suspects the two-alarm fire was gas-fed. Saddle Brook pulled in mutual aid from Hackensack, Fair Lawn, Elmwood Park, Paramus, Garfield and Maywood.
