Emergency responders are on the scene of a major gas leak in the middle of a Camden County roadway and nearby residents are being evacuated. Workers apparently struck a 6-inch gas line at Egg Harbor Road and East Fleming Pike in Winslow Township around 11:30 a.m., according to Camden County spokesman Dan Keashen. South Jersey Gas is on the scene and working to shut down the leak, Keashen confirmed. “Due to an abundance of caution, the fire department has evacuated residents within close proximity of the leak,” Keashen said, and the county office of emergency management has sent out a bus to provide shelter for evacuees. Footage from TV news helicopters shows material spewing from the rupture. No injuries have been reported.
