A town police officer and firefighter were injured battling a blaze that left two homes uninhabitable Tuesday, police said. Around 3:15 p.m., Hackettstown police, fire and medical personnel responded to a residence on Route 57 for the reported structure fire and observed smoke coming from the second-story window. The connecting residence sustained smoke and water damage and neither home can be lived in until repairs are made, according to Sgt. Darren Tynan. A Hackettstown officer suffered smoke inhalation and a firefighter suffered a minor injury that was treated at Hackettstown Medical Center, Tynan said. The investigation by the Hackettstown Detective Bureau, the Mount Olive Township Fire Marshal's Office and the Warren County Fire Marshal's Office said the cause of the fire is undetermined and not suspicious at this time, Tynan said.
