A cleanup crew worker was injured during a minor detonation at the chlorine chemical plant, where emergency personnel have been working for more than a week. A small detonation at the Alden Leeds chlorine facility at around 10 a.m. Sunday morning sent a man to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Kearny Fire Department Chief Steve Dyl. The man was treated and released. Firefighters have been working with cleanup crews to mitigate the site "and get the final work done," Dyl said. Due to the nature of the product, Dyl said, chemical reactions have persisted and have created flare ups. "The fire is still active because of the environment," he said. "The product is still reacting... We're trying to keep it cool so that doesn't happen."
