Shortly before 5 pm on Monday, October 7 the Maplewood Fire department responded to a report of a smoke odor from the homeowner at 27 Kendall Avenue. Upon arrival they determined the odor was associated with an electrical condition and requested Public Service to the scene. this same condition was reported in several other homes nearby. While checking these homes, a neighbor noticed smoke coming fro a second floor window of the home at 26 Kendall Avenue.
The Maplewood firefighters, assisted by firefighters from Millburn, South Orange and Union struck down the fire which was in a rear bedroom on the second floor. Due to the fire that room suffered heavy heat and smoke damage and the entire second and third floors suffered smoke damage. Additionally, the first floor suffered water damage. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
