The tanker truck driver killed in a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike early Tuesday was identified as an assistant chief at a South Jersey fire company. Fire departments around the state offered condolences after the loss of Anthony Jackson, 60, who served with the Logan Volunteer Fire Company of Pedricktown in Oldmans Township, Salem County, where he lived. “It is with great sadness that the Pedricktown Fire Company announces the passing of lifelong member and mentor Anthony V. Jackson,” the fire company said on social media. “The chief and staff of the Salem County Fire Academy extend our thoughts and prayers this morning to the family of Assistant Chief Anthony Jackson who succumbed from his injuries sustained earlier this morning in a motor vehicle crash on the NJ Turnpike,” a post from a Facebook page for fire academy staff said. “One never knows what a day has in store... RIP Chief,” the message said.
