A 9-year-old suffered minor injuries and two families were displaced by a fire at a Vreeland Place two-family home in Jersey City Sunday evening, authorities said.
Jersey City firefighters responded to 6 Vreeland Place just before 6 p.m. and found the fire moving from the first floor to the second through the rear wall of the 2½-story residential building, city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.
The fire department quickly knocked down the fire, but the rear wall suffered heavy damage, Wallace-Scalcione said. All residents evacuated the building before firefighters arrived. The 9-year-old was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and released.
A total of nine adults and two children were relocated with the assistance of Red Cross, Wallace-Scalcione said.
