It took firefighters in Jersey City more than three hours to control a massive multi-alarm fast-moving gas fire, where flames were seen shooting out of multiple homes.
The fire began around 4:15 a.m. on Wade Street.
According to officials, they believe it was a natural gas-fed fire that quickly burned through four homes.
The fire moved so quickly that neighbors worried it would spread to their homes.
“I was walking from my house, I was walking my dog and I heard a lot of popping,” says witness Eric Jones. “I thought it was gunfire. As I turned the corner, I seen the house fully involved in the front. It started in the middle house and it went to the third house. It was the first house on the corner then the second house, then the third house. It started in the second house in the middle."
According to the fire chief, two firefighters suffered smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
