Two fires that occurred within nine days and three miles of each other caused extensive damage to a warehouse and an apartment complex in the city, and required assistance from multiple area fire companies to extinguish.
On Sunday, Feb. 16 at around 9 p.m., a two-alarm fire engulfed several apartment units at 970 Main Street and displaced “multiple” residents. The fire was put out with the assistance from Englewood, Teaneck, Bogota and Ridgefield Park Fire Departments. There was a delay in extinguishing the blaze due to an “electrical issue” that caused the fire and led to its spread to “several” apartments on three floors. Consequently, firefighters stood by "in a defensive mode" until PSE&G secured the power to the building, according to a post on the Hackensack Fire Department Facebook page.
The week before on Feb. 7 after 6 p.m., firefighters received “several 911 calls” reporting a fire at 20 Wysocki Place, a 55-year-old, one-story warehouse made of stucco and concrete.
