Township officials who’ve been searching for a new central firehouse location for more than a year have chosen a site along Garden State Art Center Road near Crawfords Corner Road, not far from the Garden State Parkway.
A year after a fire study recommended relocating the main fire station to a more central location, the Township Committee unanimously approved the site after considering at least five potential locations. The two-acre spot is across from the First Aid Squad, near a U.S. Post Office and a block from Town Hall.
“It keeps all emergency services basically at one location,” said Mayor Greg Buontempo. “Since first aid exists there it has no new impact on residential property and with first aid and fire working together it allows that cohesiveness to continue.”
