A South Brunswick home was damaged Friday in a blaze that was likely caused by a lawnmower stored along the side of it that caught fire, police said.
The town’s three fire companies were called to Richford Road home at 2 p.m. after an officer spotted smoke rising from it, according to a release from the South Brunswick Police. The family had already escaped the home, authorities said.
When firefighters arrived, one side of the house was fully engulfed in flames and the fire had spread along the wall and into the attic and roof, authorities said. “We used a transitional attack moving from the exterior to the interior to push back the flames,” Kendall Park Fire Chief Chris Perez said in a statement. “It was a total team effort to bring the fire under control in 15 minutes.”
