A garbage truck caught fire Monday morning behind the Dollar Tree in Raritan. The fire was reported around 8:47 a.m. to a Republic garbage truck in the Dollar Tree's parking lot just off Route 206, said Raritan Fire Chief Brian Kredatus. A mechanical issue caused the cardboard in the back of the truck to ignite, setting fire to the rest of the truck, said Kredatus. "Due to the fire, the truck was unable to dump its contents meaning we had to open it manually using heavy machinery," said Kredatus. There were no reported injuries. Along with Raritan Fire Department, Somerville Fire Department and Somerset County Hazmat Team came out.
