An early morning fire tore through a home on Grant Avenue Friday, displacing five people, the fire chief said.
The blaze at 849 Grant Ave. erupted just before 5:43 a.m., Chief Michael Duelks said. Firefighters who arrived at 5:49 a.m. found thick smoke and fire showing from the second floor of the 2 ½ story residence, he told TAPinto Westfield.
“All residents of the four-family dwelling were safely evacuated, and attack lines were deployed to extinguish the fire,” Duelks said.
First responders treated three of the residents for minor smoke inhalation, he said. Firefighters declared the blaze under control at 6:23 a.m. but not before it rose to two alarms, Duelks said.
In a statement, he said authorities determined the fire to be electrical in nature.
