A fire on Old Clovis Highway Monday morning did not result in injuries, but a person was taken to the hospital and the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office expects to press charges against him for actions toward firefighters.
Sheriff Mike Herrington said that the man, whose name was not released by press time, had to be taken to the hospital temporarily after he was hit with tasers on the scene. Once medically cleared, he was taken to jail, according to a Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
Herrington said the man made threats to firefighters and had a switch-blade knife in his possession. Herrington said the man was to be charged with threatening firefighters, obstructing firefighters and possessing a deadly weapon.
The sheriff said the man is thought to be a relative of the owner of the property, which is on the east side of Old Clovis Highway between U.S. 70 East and Briggs Road.
