The National Interagency Fire Center has announced that 21 wildland fire personnel are being deployed to help fight the wildfires in Australia. A Bureau of Land Management (BLM) official confirmed to KOLO 8 News Now that one of their Type II Incident Commanders from the Carson City District left Thursday morning, December 5, 2019, for deployment to the Australia fire fight. That firefighter is expected to be deployed for the next month. The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) has also confirmed to KOLO that two firefighters have deployed from the Great Basic Coordination Center to Australia. The Great Basin region covers Nevada, Idaho, Utah and the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Western Wyoming. However, the USFS firefighters are not from Nevada. There are more than 100 fires burning across Australia after weeks of strong winds.
