Traffic deaths in Clark County were up slightly last month compared to a year ago, according to new data released by state officials. The county saw 17 fatalities for the month of January 2019, up from 15 over the same month in 2018. Of those deaths, seven people were in cars, four were pedestrians, three were motorcyclists and three were bicyclists. The new numbers come from Nevada's Office of Traffic Safety. Law enforcement officials said in January they were concerned with a spike in traffic-related deaths to start the new year, citing speed, impairment, distracted driving, traffic violations and not wearing seatbelts as causes.
